What’s Hot in South Bay This September!!

After a long summer jam packed with fun, one would think finding equally enjoyable fall activities would prove to be a challenge– fortunately, September will prove you wrong. Here in the South Bay, we are more than ready to leap into the fall mindset, whether or not the weather agrees! September’s events will kick off with fond memories of June, July, and August… concerts on the sand, volleyball competitions, movies at the beach… sounds pretty familiar right? Though as the month goes on, we have a plethora of new and exciting events lined up!
To give you a little hint… let’s say it’s time to break out your dancing shoes and prep your palate for big days and nights. Are you ready to rumble? We sure are! Catch ya out there!

1.Summer Concerts in the Park

As we know, there is certainly no shortage of concerts in the South Bay. Heck, they are practically a given! However, Manhattan Beach’s Summer Concerts in the Park are a consistent hit within the South Bay community, managing to flood the Polliwog Park amphitheater and its surrounding hills to the brim with music loving patrons every single year. Though, as summer comes to a close, there remains one more chance to seize the day and see a show at good ol’ Polliwog Park. Don’t miss your last chance to set up camp, pack the perfect picnic, and lounge the evening away! We are so very lucky to bid ado to the summer with the amazing Blue Breeze Band, whose soulful sound is the perfect sunset sendaway. Cherish the day and the new memories you’ll make, and remember, there are only seven months until we’re back at it again!

2.Hermosa Beach Open

Did you just feel your blood pressure spike? Or was that just the epic feeling you get from watching superb professional beach volleyball! Set your sights on the court and get ready to serve at the Hermosa Beach Open ! From September 4-7, Hermosa Beach will be the ultimate playground for beach volleyball enthusiasts. It’s going to be a sensational showdown with top-tier players, and the best part? You don’t have to dig deep into your pockets—admission is FREE, though donations are greatly appreciated! It’s our mission to maintain SoCal’s beach volleyball tradition alive, which is why we are trying to raise $250k to keep the volleyball vibes rolling, cover prize money, and even stream the action worldwide (and we are off to a really amazing start). So, grab your shades, your beach towel, good vibes, and maybe a friend or two, and come join us for an epic show where the only thing we won’t have is boring!

3.Free Yoga on the Pier

Ready to bend and stretch by the sea? Transition both your poses and the seasons with us at the Redondo Beach Pier! For the September, you can join dozens of members of the community for Free Yoga on the Pier every Wednesday from the 4th to 25th, from 6-7 pm! Grab your yoga mat, towel, and water, and let’s get down(ward dog) to business. It’s the perfect chance to get zen with a side of sea breeze—and if you’re lucky, maybe a playful seagull or two will join your warrior pose (who doesn’t want a little r&r with the local wildlife)! All ages are welcome, so bring the whole crew and let’s get our yoga on!

4.Cruise at the Beach!

Prepare to rev your engines and cruise into a great time at the Redondo Beach Marina on September 6 from 3-7 pm! Redondo’s 24th summer of Cruise at the Beach will, per usual tradition, be packed with live music, amazing food, and a chance to win big with our 50/50 raffle. Feast your eyes on a dazzling lineup of hot rods, muscle cars, and exotic classics while enjoying the ocean breeze. With awards and a vibrant atmosphere, it’s going to be an afternoon to remember for car enthusiasts and beach lovers alike! See you there!

7. Hermosa Beach Concert Series

When one door closes, another one opens. In this case, that means the welcoming of a September concert series in Hermosa Beach, right on the sand just south of the pier! On September 8th at 3pm get ready to welcome Phantom Planet and their opener, The Mox, to the stage! You might recognize the rock n roll sounds of the 2000s especially due to the smashing success of their song “California” which was used as the theme for the tv series “The OC” (we already know they have that SoCal spirit on lock!). Then, on September 15, we are pleased to announce Barley and their opener Redletter! Barley describe themselves as experts in “fun, local, original, beachy, Americana rock & roll!”. They are certainly a staple in the South Bay, and are guaranteed to put on a showstopper! Don’t miss out on all the action, prioritize having a good time at the beach with the besties (or by yourself, we don’t judge)!

8. Country Western Fest

Put on those boots and toss on that hat because the country is calling! We’re talkin’ the wild wild west, complete with cacti and tumbleweeds (just kidding, but let’s use our imaginations here). But really, Carson is throwing a Country Western Fest at Dominguez Park on September 15 from 5:30 to 9 pm! This event is, of course, for everyone, but if you find any of these wonderfully western activities pleasurable, I’d highly recommend you attend. The night will include food, dancing, live music, an adult beer garden, and for the grand finale… an EPIC drone show that’ll blow your boots off and rock you like a wagon wheel! We hope to see you there, it’s time to throw down this hoedown!

9. Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture

On September 14 from 12-9pm, get ready to feel the power of pride as the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture marks its big 3-0 in style! Finally making its return home to Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, this year’s event will 100% guarantee a feast for the senses, from sizzling lumpia to the sweet sounds of Filipino-American artists like Joe Bataan and Prometheus Brown. With pavilions to explore and stages packed with talent, it’ll surely be the talk of the town (so you better show up)! Whether you’re here for the must have classic treats or the harmonious tunes, one thing’s for sure—this homecoming will be fun for the whole family, no need to worry here! Don’t miss out on the fun, folks— these memories will last a lifetime!

10. Coastal Cleanup

The best way to love the beach is to maintain its beauty. Come celebrate Los Angeles Country 35th Coastal Cleanup Day with Heal the Bay! Help us collect 2 million pounds of litter from waterways across LA County and assist in raising $35,000 to support our ongoing efforts throughout the year! On September 21 from 9am-1pm, you can do YOUR part in keeping the South Bay the paradise it is! Register today and Heal the Bay at Schumaker Plaza in Hermosa Beach. Time to make your mark on the world!

11. Mariachi Fiesta

Gather your friends and get ready to spice up your evening with the Mariachi Fiesta at the Carson Event Center on September 27th at 5:30 pm! As part of the City of Carson’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, this event promises a night full of lively music, vibrant dance, and a three-course meal that’ll make your taste buds dance, too. Whether you’re grabbing a $55 ticket or bringing the whole family with a table of eight, you’re in for a fiesta that’s sure to hit all the right notes. And don’t forget the cash bar—because every fiesta needs a little salud! The event it’s guaranteed to sell out, so you better act fast before the party starts!

12. Food, Wine, and Brew Festival

Get boozy and get busy because Gardena is raising yet another glass to its community by proudly hosting a fabulous Food, Wine, and Brew Festival on September 28th! Prepare your taste buds for a sensational adventure with wine tastings from top California wineries, craft beers from local breweries, and plenty of delicious bits and bites from local food vendors. Now that it’s all said and done, September sounds pretty fun! From the wild, wild, west, to car shows, to yoga on the pier, there truly is something for everyone. Fall is coming in the South Bay isn’t afraid to admit it! The slight movement away from beach-centric awesomeness is only a gateway to fall fantasies (we can already smell the pumpkin spice). Gardena’s Food, Wine, and Brew festival is the perfect way to end the month and to prep for Autumn ales, outfits, and a bounty of beautiful events. Pull out your pants and search for your sweaters, because September is merely a warm up round for the next few months, and gosh are we excited!
